Why we exist

Sport is one of the last places people still hide who they are

Our focus areas are centred around fostering an inclusive and welcoming sporting environment. That means working at every level — with the individual looking for somewhere safe to play, and with the organisations who set the culture around them.

80%

of individuals have witnessed or experienced homophobia on the sports field.

44%

of LGBTQI+ people feel the need to hide their true selves in public and community settings.

Our story

Built from lived experience

Proud 2 Play was started by LGBTQIA+ people who knew what it felt like to leave sport rather than keep explaining themselves. That experience still shapes how we work.
